City of Stuart is experiencing robust new permitting and looks forward to a strong 2018 in all categories of city performance.


Drive through Stuart on Highway 1 or A1A and you may not realize that the City boasts a robust town center, regionally significant healthcare, and even Information industry above the state average.


Healthcare


According to 2016 US Census Data, "Healthcare, Social Assistance, and Education" employ the greatest number of Stuart residents by far - 1,631 people. Much of this employment is concentrated in a waterfront medical district along the Indian River Lagoon. The City welcomes continued medical small and large business investment and will strive to stay in lock step with cutting edge healthcare advances taking place.


Retail Trade


The second most common sector for employment in Stuart is Retail Trade, supporting 941 jobs. This includes a diverse set of local businesses, such as those found in the Downtown Business District. Attentive to the relationship between urban form and shopping destinations, the City continues to craft its waterfront to attract visitors who will spend the entire day shopping and recreating.


Information


As of 2016, there were 127 people employed in the "Information" sector. As a percentage of total employment, this ratio is higher than the rate for the state as a whole. This sector includes Newspapers, Periodicals and Books Publishers as well as Software Creation, Movie Studios, and Music Studios. Opportunities exist for businesses in these sectors to locate in the area and build upon the success already enjoyed here.
